Today's 'Wordle' #944 Tips, Hints and Answer for Friday, January 19 Puzzle

Another day means another Wordle puzzle to try and figure out—and Newsweek is here to help you find the answer.

If you're struggling with the brainteaser there's no need to worry, as its creator, Josh Wardle, has said he needs quite a few attempts before solving it himself.

"[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning," the New York-based software engineer told Newsweek in 2022. "She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least four or five attempts."

Wardle created the game because he wanted to help keep his crossword-loving partner entertained during the COVID-19 lockdown. He decided to share Wordle with the world in October 2021 and since then, millions of people have attempted to solve the daily brainteaser.

Following its debut, Wordle exploded from 90 users on November 1, 2021, to 300,000 on January 2, 2022, according to figures by Statista. Thanks to its popularity, The New York Times bought it in early 2022 for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

Players have six chances to figure out what the five-letter word of the day is. It can be a noun, adjective or verb and they're helped by a color-coded system. A tile will become green when players guess the correct letter. The letter will become yellow if it appears in the word, but not where the user has placed it and the tile will turn gray if the letter does not appear in the word at all.
